Race Skills Sessions
In August we delivered two progressive coaching sessions at Lee Valley, each attended by around 20 riders. Several riders took part in both sessions, and around 11 went on to race in both categories of the London Academy GP (4th Cat and E123).
Session 1: Control and Positioning
The first session focused on the foundations of safe and effective bunch riding. Riders developed confidence with close contact, group formations, positioning, cornering, and sprint mechanics. The aim was to build trust in self, bike, and the riders around them.
Session 2: Race Scenarios
The second session progressed to race-specific scenarios on the full circuit. Drills included pacelines, surges, attacking, bridging, and team efforts. These exercises built on the skills from Session 1 and applied them to higher-speed, tactical environments.
Shared Outcomes
Both sessions concluded with a presentation and Q&A covering race preparation, routines, and confidence. The key message was simple: confidence comes from preparation and practice. The hardest part is turning up; once you do, the rest follows.
Looking Ahead
Plans are in place to run more sessions over the 25/26 winter, including open category opportunities. The format will remain similar: structured drills, progressive development, and space for discussion. Riders of all levels will benefit, whether their goal is racing or simply improving confidence in a bunch.
